How did you begin your career in the procurement industry?

Whilst working as a Quality Assurance, Health and Safety and Environment (QAHSE) Co-ordinator for Petrowell, I was responsible for the creation of purchase orders for HSE services and materials. It was here I first developed an interest in procurement. To further my career in this field, I accepted a position at Vroon Offshore Services as a buyer. It was a demanding but rewarding role where I was responsible for the purchasing and expediting of goods, services and logistics for operationally critical local and overseas vessels.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My role ensures that no two days are the same. An important part of my job is to liaise with suppliers and clients alike to acquire and provide accurate lead times. In this way I can identify delays and work alongside colleagues to explore solutions necessary to minimise impact to critical purchase orders and services.

Do you have any particular areas of specialism?

My procurement career encompasses a variety of fields however it is the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) industry in which I have most experience. Throughout my employment at Saipem I developed an in depth understanding of ROVs and more importantly, the goods, services and suppliers required to ensure their mobilisation.

What projects have you worked on throughout your career that have been particularly interesting?

Whilst working for Vroon Offshore Services, I was entrusted with the outfitting of a new vessel for their fleet. Although a demanding task with strict regulations and even tighter deadlines, I was excited to utilise my negotiation skills to procure and expedite all goods and services required prior to the vessel’s sea trials.

Do you have any goals you would like to achieve in the next few years?

My goal for 2021 is to complete my home renovation. I have encountered many problems along the way which unfortunately has resulted in unexpected expenses and delays. However, the end is now in sight and I would love to finally complete and more importantly enjoy this labour of love.
